Back in Germany I like to remember a very impressive event on October 28th, 2007. I had been invited to share the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Japan Christmas Rose Society and had the honour to lecture about hellebores.
I was fascinated to meet so many hellebore loving people, even from far away and to learn that there is a wide range of interest in this wonderful plant. I met people who were involved in breeding hellebores, in studying hellebores at their natural sites, in writing about them and in presenting them in artful pictures. I am sure there will be quite a few people who treasure hellebores in their gardens. ? All these people met here in the Christmas Rose Society and could exchange experiences and ideas. How wonderful!
I enjoyed to lecture about hellebores, their history as medical and later garden plants, having an engaged, attentive and knowing audience. And I noticed with pleasure that people of all age took great interest in this subject.
During my stay in Japan I could share the life of the wonderful Noda family and so could have a close look at daily work of hellebore nursery men. But I also had the chance to visit many other hellebore growing nurseries. I was impressed by their engagement and love in this enchanting plant which also conquered my heart.
So I do wish further success, vitality and joy for Japan Christmas Rose Society.
